Cherry Hill, VA, is a fast-growing suburban community in southeastern Prince William County, set on the Cherry Hill peninsula along the Potomac River just northeast of the town of Dumfries. Officially a census-designated place rather than a town, it has no local government of its own, and its neighborhoods are run by several separate homeowners’ associations. Once a mix of low-density homes on the east side and industry on the west, the peninsula has been transformed since the 1990s by planned communities such as Southbridge on the Potomac, River Oaks, Eagle Pointe, and the newer Potomac Shores, and its population grew by nearly half between 2010 and 2020. Residents enjoy about 10 miles of trails, neighborhood parks, the Potomac Shores Golf Club, and Leesylvania State Park on the peninsula’s northeastern side. With Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1 close by, Cherry Hill strikes a balance between waterfront living and easy access to the rest of Northern Virginia, making it a sought-after destination for those seeking a peaceful yet well-connected community.

Leesylvania State Park: Set on the northeastern side of the Cherry Hill peninsula along the Potomac River, this state park has a popular boat launch, river fishing, and five hiking trails. It was the home of Henry Lee II from 1747 until 1787, and Freestone Point was the site of a Civil War gun emplacement.
Potomac Shores Golf Club: A public 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Cherry Hill’s Potomac Shores community, carved through mature hardwood forest overlooking the Potomac River.
Neabsco Creek Boardwalk: Just north of Cherry Hill in Woodbridge, this 0.6-mile boardwalk crosses Neabsco Creek, with observation decks and overlooks for spotting great blue herons, wood ducks, and other birds. It is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
Rippon Lodge Historic Site: Built around 1747 for Richard Blackburn, this house near the north end of the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk is one of the oldest known homes in Prince William County. The county runs it as a historic site with guided and self-guided tours.
National Museum of the Marine Corps: A short drive south in Triangle, next to Marine Corps Base Quantico, this museum traces the history of the U.S. Marines through galleries covering the founding era, both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam. Its soaring design evokes the flag raising on Iwo Jima.
Prince William Forest Park: A short drive southwest in Triangle, this national park protects a large area of Piedmont forest with about 37 miles of hiking trails, bike-friendly roads, campgrounds, and historic cabin camps dating back to the 1930s.
