Proposal Ideas in DC: Setting the Scene With a Luxury Car

The ring is the easy part. Choosing the moment, the place, and how you'll get there is where most of the planning goes, and the right car can tie it all together.

Proposal ideas with a luxury car

A proposal doesn't need to be complicated to feel special. These ideas start with the car and build out from there.

A car that sets the scene

Think about the feeling you want, then choose a car to match it.

Top down on a country road. Our white Ferrari 458 Spider was made for moments like this: a sunset drive out of the city with the roof down and the ring in your pocket. Prefer red? The 488 Spider is another favorite for proposals. Both have folding hardtops, so the roof goes back up if the weather changes.

Under a sky full of stars. Our Maybach S580 'Starlight' and the two-tone 'Panda' Maybach both have a Starlight headliner, with hundreds of fiber-optic points that turn the roof into a private night sky. Book one with a chauffeur and you can sit together in the reclining rear seats.

Quiet elegance. A Rolls-Royce Ghost or Cullinan keeps things calm and refined, with room for a photographer or a parent who's in on the secret.

Roses, champagne, and the big gesture

Flowers waiting in the car are one of the simplest ways to make the moment feel planned. You can add these to any booking:

• Fresh Roses ($209): hand-made roses arranged in the car before you collect it, or before we hand it over if we're delivering.
• Romance Package ($750): the car arrives filled with 48 hand-made roses and a 6-foot teddy bear. The bear's color, the rose variety, and how many roses you'd like can all be changed.
• Champagne on Arrival ($99): a chilled bottle waiting in the car for the celebration afterward.

Fresh Roses need 16 hours' notice, and the Romance Package takes about a week to prepare. You'll find both on our roses page.

Drive yourself, or let us drive

With a chauffeur. You can focus on each other, not on parking or directions. Your driver keeps to the timings you've planned, and you're free to sit together in the back. When we drive, there's no minimum age and no insurance to arrange, and chauffeured bookings have a 4-hour minimum. A chauffeur also makes surprises easier: the car can collect your partner for what they think is an ordinary dinner reservation.

Driving yourself. A self-drive rental feels more private, and it suits a long scenic drive with a stop at the perfect view. Whoever drives will need a valid license and insurance that covers the car, and must be approved by our team before pickup, so send your documents early and keep the day itself free for the important part. Where to ask

Choose somewhere that means something to you both, then check how the car fits in. A few places around the DMV that work well:

Captain's Row, Old Town Alexandria. Cobblestones and period houses on the 100 block of Prince Street give you a timeless, historic backdrop. There's visitor street parking and public garages nearby; the cobbles are uneven, so take a low car slowly or park and walk.

National Harbor. Waterfront Street has shops, restaurants, and a resort-town feel, which suits a proposal followed by dinner. Use the street meters or a visitor garage rather than hotel arrival areas.

The monuments at night. There's no parking at the Lincoln Memorial itself, so let your chauffeur drop you nearby and walk up together. The car will be waiting when you're ready to celebrate.

Somewhere out of town. A quiet overlook or a vineyard can be the perfect setting. Check whether the property allows proposals and photos, and ask for permission in advance if it's a private venue.

Wherever you choose, use ordinary permitted parking and follow the posted signs.

Timing the moment

Plan the day backward from the moment you'll ask. Check the sunset time if you want golden light, book any restaurant or photographer first, and then tell us when you need the car and where.

Cars are normally collected and returned between 9 AM and 8 PM. If your plan needs another time, call us and we'll set it up. Want to keep it a surprise? We can deliver the car to a hotel or venue, so your partner never sees it arrive. Delivery is priced by distance.

Planning at the last minute? If the car you want is free, same-day bookings are possible, and they're easiest with a chauffeur. If you're driving, send your license and insurance as soon as you can, because our team needs to approve them first. Roses need at least 16 hours' notice.
