Just west of Richmond in Chesterfield County, Virginia, Bon Air is a delightful community that seamlessly blends suburban serenity with local charm. Founded in the 1870s as a summer resort for wealthy Richmonders who prized its higher elevation and fresher air, it takes its name from the French for “good air.” Characterized by tree-lined streets and a sense of community pride, Bon Air offers residents a peaceful residential environment while remaining close to urban conveniences. Robious Landing Park, a short drive west along the James River, provides a picturesque backdrop for outdoor activities and relaxation. The Bon Air Historical Society, founded in 1978, works to preserve the area’s heritage, including the Victorian-era homes of the Bon Air Historic District. Nearby Stony Point Fashion Park adds a touch of retail therapy to the community. Bon Air, with its emphasis on community, green spaces, and local history, creates a welcoming haven for those seeking a suburban lifestyle with a close-knit neighborhood feel.
