Muddy Branch Greenway Trail: About 9 miles of natural-surface trail through Muddy Branch Stream Valley Park, running from Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg down to Blockhouse Point, past old mill remnants along the way.
Blockhouse Point Conservation Park: A roughly 630-acre park on River Road in Darnestown with views of the Potomac River and the C&O Canal, and trails once used to supply a Civil War outpost.
C&O Canal National Historical Park: The canal towpath runs 184.5 miles from Georgetown to Cumberland, and Pennyfield Lock, reached by a bridge from the Muddy Branch trail, is a nearby access point.
